We are delighted to announce updates to two Lü applications! Reach for the stars and test your students’ physical abilities with Beep, then discover two new visuals in your favourite reaction-time application, Wäk!
Beep: the tool for assessing maximal aerobic speed
The beep test (also known as the bleep test, the multi-stage fitness test, or the shuttle run test) is used to calculate a person’s maximal aerobic speed and, indirectly, their maximal oxygen consumption (VO₂ max). Since it was invented by Luc Léger in 1982, several other versions of the test have been created, such as the 20 m Eurofit, the 40 m Birtwell, and the 15 m and 20 m PACER tests. All these variants can be found in the Beep application on your Lü interactive system.
Using the Beep application in physical education classes offers several advantages for teachers. For instance, it helps them identify students’ strengths and challenges, see an overview of the group thanks to the application’s ability to record results, and adjust their teaching accordingly.
The latest version of Beep makes it much easier to collect and assess results. Teachers will be delighted to find that they can now drop flags instantly by clicking on the shortcut with a more responsive animation. What’s more, the application now has a results table at the end of each exercise to give a better picture of the group’s performance. Thanks to this new feature, teachers can see how many levels have been reached and get a detailed breakdown of their students’ performance.
Using Beep in class also encourages students to ask questions and reflect on topics like cardiovascular endurance and how to improve it, designing fitness plans, and managing effort.
During a beep test, participants run back and forth between two lines at the pace and speed dictated by the system. A participant finishes the test when they can no longer cross one of the lines before the sound cue. In addition to the test’s sound cues, the Beep application has an energizing soundtrack that teachers can activate right from the interface.
An application like Beep is a must-have: it’s an invaluable tool for teachers and helps educate students about maximal aerobic speed. Improving maximal aerobic speed is good for many of the body’s systems, reducing the risk of health problems such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and hypertension, while also having a positive impact on mental health.
Improve reaction time and inhibition with Wäk
Wäk, one of our most popular applications, has gotten a new look! There are now separate visuals for each of the four difficulty levels, and an easy-to-click button so students can restart games on their own.
This application is a fun way to work on mathematical skills, like comparing natural numbers and equations, and mental addition and subtraction. Through customizable content in the Lü Community, teachers can also take mathematical concepts a step further by creating activities to work on mental multiplication and division or help students recognize fractions.
This application is great for physical education teachers too, since it improves students’ reaction time, or how fast they can react to an external stimulus. This physical skill is important in many sports and physical activities, and is distinct from reflexes, which are involuntary.
What’s more, the Wäk game calls on speed and changes instructions quickly, so it lets students improve their inhibition and cognitive flexibility (ability to change behavior to suit the situation).
In short, Wäk is a multipurpose game in the Lü portfolio; it can be used to develop multiple important childhood skills. Download our application catalog to explore all the possibilities our applications have to offer!
