Summer is just around the corner, and the sunny weather is the perfect occasion to get moving. While kids tend to naturally be more active in the summertime, some parents may be lost as to what to do to get the whole family moving.
Here are a few suggestions for activities your whole family can enjoy this summer.
Hiking
Discover new landscapes, explore new trails, go on an adventure. Hiking is a fun activity to do with the family. However, it’s important to gradually get your kids used to it first so they can enjoy it. You can encourage them to participate by choosing a hike with a beautiful view or captivating attraction (like a waterfall) or sending them on a quest—have them name the animals they see, take pictures of them, and record them in a notebook. Hiking is a great way to keep the whole family active while enjoying the great outdoors. Don’t forget to bring enough snacks and water for everyone!
Biking
This summer, swap the car for a bicycle! Want to go to the park with your family? It’s the perfect chance to turn it into a family bike ride! You can even sweeten the deal by planning a picnic along the way. Bonus: in addition to being fun, biking is a great way to stay in shape.
Learn a new sport or activity
Introducing kids to a variety of sports and activities gives them the chance to develop their preferences and learn to enjoy staying active. Take advantage of the summer break to introduce your family to a new sport or activity. Kayaking, paddle boarding, mountain biking, tennis… the possibilities are endless! And trying something new together is so much more fun! Weather permitting, focus on outdoor activities so whole family can get their fill of vitamin D.
Climbing
Rainy day? No worries! Indoor climbing gyms are the perfect place to stretch your legs with your family on a grey day. If you’re beginners, bouldering is a great way to get started. Even better, gyms usually have equipment available to rent, so you don’t need to buy anything! Climbing is an easy and accessible activity that your kids will love, and it will boost their self-confidence and develop their team spirit.
To all active families: have a great summer!
